MLK Day of Service Connects Students and Vets through Skype

Director John Holton from the Illinois Department on Aging spoke to groups in Chicago and downstate Gillespie through a camera (note the laptop on the right). The image was highlighted on a big screen so the groups could interact. Holton said the conversation between the veterans and teens is just one example of documenting oral history.

Generations Serving Generations sponsored a MLK Day of Service that connected veterans and students from After School Matters in Chicago and Gillespie High School in the Metro East area.

Older Learner Programs: The Best Kept Secret Lifelong Learning Coalition
On April 7, the executive committee of the Lifelong Learning Coalition met at the Illinois Board of Higher Education to set goals for the coming year. The Coalition chair, Dr. Carol Davis, Spoon River College says that one of the goals is a publicity campaign so that those 50+ are aware of the opportunities to get involved, stay active and explore new interests.”
